Rocket League Sideswipe

Psyonix's game about rocket-powered vehicles fighting in a soccer game has been one of the finest competitive titles on PC and console for years. It's also one of the finest games you can play on your mobile device in a new form, as Rocket League Sideswipe distills all of the fun of Rocket League into a very engaging and fast-paced 2D experience.

Rocket League Sideswipe is the series at its most accessible level yet, while yet giving plenty of sophisticated methods to master. It's still as fast and furious as ever, but with an emphasis on vertical action and gravity-defying strategies, it's the game at its most accessible level yet.

The carefully created action of Rocket League Sideswipe is a pattern for how the finest games on PC and console can transfer to mobile devices.

League of Legends: Wild Rift

The year 2021 has been a significant one for Riot's League of Legends brand, and if the excellent Arcane series has piqued your curiosity in that realm, Wild Rift is a terrific place to start. It's essentially League of Legends pared down to its most approachable core, with a significant amount of fat removed and the game retooled for mobile devices.

Wild Rift is League of Legends without the bloated content or frightening learning curve of the regular game.

The superbly built touchscreen controls, vivid aesthetic, and easily-readable on-screen action make Wild Rift one of the greatest mobile games of the year for anyone who looks at the PC counterpart and sees an impenetrable metagame.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact appears to be too wonderful to be true on paper. It's a collection of lush landscapes with well-balanced gameplay that's updated regularly, all at the modest price of nothing. While the gacha design has some premium features, Genshin Impact is still an exceptionally pleasant game that gives an unbelievable amount of content without forcing microtransactions in your face right out of the box.
With new areas unlocked, a steady stream of new characters added to the roster, and next-gen updates that make an already aesthetically gorgeous game appear and function even better on PS5 and PC, 2021 has been a fantastic year for the game.

Fantasian

Fantasian is a game that understands exactly which classic RPG systems and ideas it wants to include into its design, and with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi on board, the parallels are evident. While Fantasian doesn't travel too far from a route that has been walked by hundreds of RPGs for decades, it nonetheless manages to polish those basic components to a mirror sheen, bringing in quality-of-life enhancements that matter.

It's also a visually stunning game, with Sakaguchi pioneering a technique that converted hundreds of handcrafted dioramas into playable characters, giving the experience a distinct artisanal aspect. The most enticing aspect of Fantasian, though, is its approachability, as a plethora of saves places, crisp controls, and compelling combat help to produce a game that's great for newcomers while still appealing to veterans of the genre. It's a sophisticated take to a classic gaming genre, and one of the greatest games you can play on your mobile device right now.

Pokemon Unite

Although Pokemon's roots are in turn-based RPG monster-fighting games, the franchise has never been reluctant to branch out into other genres. This year's Pokemon Unite may be one of the franchise's most daring attempts to resurrect itself and acquire new fans, as Nintendo ventured into MOBA territory with games like League of Legends and Dota 2. Pokemon Unite, on the other hand, puts its own spin to the genre concept, and as a game that combines simple-to-learn fundamentals with quick and furious action, it creates a strong first impression on anybody willing to give it a go.
